Programme overview

Specific learning objectives

GeoAI, or Geospatial Artificial Intelligence, integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning, geographic information systems and geospatial data. The Master di secondo livello in GeoAI, Intelligenza Artificiale, Sistemi GIS e Geoapplicazioni (second-level University Master’s Programme in GeoAI, Artificial Intelligence, GIS Systems and Geo-applications) is intended for master’s graduates, professionals and technicians seeking advanced skills in the management, analysis, acquisition and interpretation of territorial data.

The curriculum guides students from advanced GIS use to the application of GeoAI tools and the analysis of real cases. Its modular structure clarifies the educational offer, distinguishes the different learning levels and emphasises the programme’s applied and technical components.

The GeoAI Master’s Programme is the natural evolution of the first- and second-level GIS Master’s programmes delivered for more than 20 editions, initially by the Department of Geological Sciences and subsequently by the Department of Science, beginning in the 2001–2002 academic year under the following official titles: “GIS per la Pianificazione Territoriale” (first level); “GIS e Telerilevamento per la Pianificazione Geoambientale” (second level); and the interdepartmental second-level “Master Digital Earth e Smart Governance. Strategie e strumenti GIS per la gestione dei beni territoriali e culturali”.

The programme is intended for recent graduates, professionals, public administrators, managers and specialist technicians in the private and public sectors who develop initiatives concerning territorial and infrastructure monitoring in a rapidly changing environment.

Pervasive AI acts as a catalyst for the established capabilities of GIS in the complex management of territories.
